Refresh-your-heart is a designated time for personal spiritual reflection, a space to steal away and get alone with god. A time set aside to be still, to focus entirely on him, and to listen to what the voice of the holy spirit is saying to you.
Ruth brooks leads each “refresh-your-heart” gathering with a time of guided scripture reading and reflection. Women then enter a personal time of being in god’s presence and contemplating the scripture passage. For some this means quietly praying and meditating on the given word. For others it is journaling with creations of words or art. Yet others find spiritual solace in going on a prayer walk.
After a time of spiritual reflection and heart expression, the group reconvenes to share the impact of god’s voice speaking to them in its various forms. This is a rich time of vulnerable sharing among trusted friends. Everyone benefits from hearing the ways god enriched the scripture focus through the varied expressions of his voice, each one the exact gift each woman needed to hear from him on that given day.
The personal refreshment of each woman’s heart in hearing from god is reverberated in the sharing of the many expressions of his voice. This is a beautiful way god refreshes the hearts of his daughters, that we may know each other more intimately as we share in the spiritual refreshment of our experiences with god. And there’s more. We journey even deeper with him and each other as we respond in awe and praise through praying for each other from our hearts.
