How PostScript Began
“Be still and know that I am God.” I read these words from Psalm 46:10 during a season of intense busyness and deep exhaustion, and I wondered how my world could possibly come to enough stillness for me to truly see and know God. As I wrestled with these thoughts, God responded in a most amazing way.
My attention was drawn to the buzzing of a beautiful hummingbird hovering in mid flight to drink nectar from a flower. I was engrossed by the calmness of this tiny creature while its wings pulsated at an incredibly rapid rate. It appeared to be completely at peace. It was in this moment the Holy Spirit whispered, “I can make you as calm as that little hummingbird. In the midst of your buzzing life, turn your eyes, ears, and heart to Me and speak the name of Jesus.” In my heart I knew He was calling me to a place of greater stillness in Him.
As I meditated on the gift of the hummingbird and the truth God spoke to my soul, I had a deep sense this message was meant for more than just myself. I realized people everywhere experience exhaustion as they struggle to balance the demands of home and family and work. Many of us carry heavy burdens of brokenness from our past and present circumstances. And if we’re honest, we would admit that in our busyness, we wrestle with loneliness, of seeking to find faith to press forward, of hearing God’s voice, of being resolved to live in hope. Many of us long to join with others to offer mutual encouragement and support, to share in hope and joy, and together find God’s peace that helps us to be still and know Him.
I began to realize that we all need a place to belong. We need to experience a welcoming community where we can share our hearts together, our joys, our cares, our hurts, and our faith journeys. A place to share encouragement and be empowered.
When we engage in loving and supportive community, we affect positive change to our circles of influence and future generations. Individuals of diverse roles and races benefit richly from connecting together, building new relationships, and in growing unexpected friendships together. Within a safe and empowering community, we can together look to the future with hope. And we collectively seek to trust in God’s promises, we share in the beautiful experience of His presence and blessings.
PostScript Outreach was founded as a place to come at no cost, to sit and be still, to listen and learn, to be inspired and create, and to share stories. A safe place of no judgement where all are welcomed and valued. A place where we truly love God and each other in both word and action. A place to learn that the past script of our lives is not the final script. Rather, God faithfully continues to unfold His true script of transformation in each of our lives. Together we can discover and celebrate His good plans to write beautiful, fulfilling, hope filled Post Script for each one of us.
